Festival Footwear: Best Shoes for a Music Festival

Festival season is among us and we want you to be prepared. The making of a great outfit starts with the shoes and we have a chosen a few that could work for you whether you’re in front and center or lounging in the back.

SXSW just wrapped up and we’re heading into the larger festivals with Coachella on April 11-13, 2014 and April 18-20, 2014,  Governors Ball on June 6-8, 2014 and Lollapalooza on August 1-3, 2014. That means your footwear has to be on point.

Besides being well hydrated we want you to be fashionable. Here’s a guide to footwear that depends on your location at the festival.

If yo’re truly there for the music you want to be front and center. Therefore you shoes should be comfortable, stylish and enclosed. With an exorbitant amount of people it best to go with booties or boots to protect your feet from inevitably being stepped on.

Retro Styles

Another 1990s trend that we are seeing now is high-waisted stone washed jeans. Retro looks are expressed through our clothes as well as through our footwear.  With the ever evolving fashion world there are still a few staple brands with classic styles such as Saucony, Reebook, and New Balance. These brands have been around for well over 100 years and continue to serve us today and will continue for many years to come.

Spring Cleaning in 4 Easy Steps

Spring is officially here and temperatures are slowly rising which will bring much needed warmth. While all of the things you have collected from last year and over the holidays are starting to pile up.

How much stuff have you accumulated out of impulse? I like it, I bought it. This way of thinking happens to us all but it also how we accumulate mounds of wants and not needs.

It’s time to declutter your home and freshen up for spring. Check out your closets, underneath your bed, in the garage.  Start with one room or section of a room at a time. Go through and first set aside items you haven’t worn in 6 months to a year. If you’re like me, you can be a bit of hoarder. This behavior can be destructive. We must learn to LET-IT-GO.

Step 1: Create 3 piles. Keep, Donate, Discard.

This is self explanatory. Create a pile of items you wish to keep that are useful and have significant sentimental value.

But what do I with all of this other stuff? In keeping green, donate the items that you believe someone else can make useful. Create a pile of items you wish to donate to Goodwill and/or The Salvation Army

Don’t be afraid to throw things away, the point of spring cleaning is to declutter and reorganize for the rest of the year. Here are some eco-friendly ways to discard your goods.

Step 2: Get rid of items you haven’t worn in 6 months to 1 year.

That’s the rule of thumb, winter clothes and boots should be packed away if you’re in a cold climate. How about that “vintage” pair of jeans that you’ve been holding on to because “they’ll be back in style again one day”. Toss it!

Step 3: Toss out ill-fitting worn-out shoes and clothes

If you are someone who’s been holding on to that dress from high school, besides it not fitting properly and looking silly, do someone a favor and donate it. How about your favorite pairs of shoes? You know, the ones with the hole in the sole or the ones that are permanently on a slant as a result of being worn over and over and over again? Toss them. Don’t even try to donate them. That goes for anything with unintentional holes, rips, looks dingy, etc. Got to go.

Step 4. Clean your boots and winter shoes then pack them away

For our cold weather gals, get your boots cleaned and pack up the closed toe shoes. The time has come to debut your favorite or new pair of open toe shoes!

It may take some time but starting with one room or section at a time will eventually amount to clutter-free simplified living. By letting go of the old, useless things in your life you can make room to invite space and creativity. I challenge you to start today. Let us know your progress on Twitter or Facebook!

What is Normcore?

What is Normcore? What is it about? Should I be concerned?

The term Normcore has been buzzing around the internet lately and before it becomes a huge trend we wanted to be one of the firsts to give you the scoop.

Normcore: A fashion trend that includes subtle inconspicuous pieces from the 1990s.

Imagine: Fleece zip up sweater, mom jeans and New Balance sneakers.

Yep, it’s that easy.

The point is to not look like you’re trying to hard to stand out. Some of the looks include comfortable sneakers that are not particularly worn for style but for support and practicality. Mom jeans, Fleece Zipper Sweaters, Track Jackets and fitted Baseball Caps, just to name a few. The irony is that this “trend” is quite normal for most of the population yet the fashion-forward, who normally want to stand out, have decided to embrace normcore.

Visit our Pinterest board for more normcore looks.

“Fundamentally, the way that we thought about it at K-HOLE is that people used to be born into communities and were, sort of, thrust into the world and had to find their own individuality. And I think today, people are born individuals and are trying to find their communities.” says Sean Monahan

How can I pull this off? Have any photos of relatives that were 30+ years old during the 90s? If so, that’s it!

If not, here are a few options to get you headed in the right direction:

Essentially what we’re saying is that normcore, the term, means to just be you.
